Red Bull Academy Update: May 19
U20s: The Red Bull U20s have not begun their season.
U18s: US MNT U17 team defeated the Red Bulls U18s, 3-1 at Lubetkin Stadium on the campus of New Jersey Institute of Technology in Newark, New Jersey on Friday, May 15.
The US MNT opened the scoring just four minutes in when Sebastian Lletget curled a corner kick to the near post and Jared Watts beat Red Bulls goalkeeper Sheldon Parkinson to the ball and headed it home to put the visitors up 1-0. It was the only score of the first half.
The US MNT increased their lead to 2-0 in the 67th minute when Jack McInerney put it past Red Bulls Parkinson. It looked like the match would end at 2-0. But the Red Bulls forward Walter Hines cut the US MNT lead in half with just two minutes remaining until full time, scoring from in close. The Red Bulls continued to press for the equalizer, but US MNT midfielder Andrew Craven, who entered the match in the 76th minute, scored in the final minute of play to seal the game for the US side.
U16s: On Friday, May 15, the New York Red Bulls U16 team played the US U17 Men's National Team to a 1-1 draw at Lubetkin Stadium on the campus of New Jersey Institute of Technology in Newark, New Jersey.
The Red Bulls opened the scoring in the 28th minute when Oscar Gonzalez took a shot from the just inside the left side of the box that was mishandled by US U17 MNT goalkeeper Spencer Richey and forward Samuel Adjei swooped in and cleaned up the play with a shot past Richey.
The US MNT leveled the score 14 minutes into the second half when Hassan (Soony) Saad broke free on the left side and fired a shot past Red Bulls goalkeeper Keith Cardona.
Both teams battled in the final minutes of regulation looking to win the match. The Red Bulls had two shots on goal with the final minute. Jonathan Gonzalez battled with US keeper Richey for the ball on the edge of the box and got it free, but his shot was just wide. On the restart, Oscar Gonzalez was able to gain possession and his shot clanked off the bar.
The US squad had its chance with just seconds until full time when Juan Agudelo, a Red Bulls Academy prospect, put a shot from inside the box that hit the cross bar.
U15s: The Red Bull U15s defeated the U15 Match Fit Academy, 3-2 on Wednesday, May 13 in US Club Northeast Pre Academy League action. Tommy Haskel tallied a brace for the Red Bulls, and Adam Najem also found the back of the net.
U14s: The Red Bull U14s played U14 Match Fit Academy to a 0-0 draw on Wednesday, May 13 in US Club Northeast Pre Academy League action.
