University of Maryland –- Drafted in the second round (18th overall) in the 2004 MLS SuperDraft
MLS Experience
2007: Featured in 29 games, starting 28. Played a total of 2547 minutes in midfield and defense. Was credited with two assists. Was also named the 2007 Red Bulls USSF Humanitarian of the Year.
2006: Broke out as a versatile threat, seeing time at every position on the field except goalkeeper (including preseason where he played two games at forward). Scored the first two goals of his career in New York's 5-4 win over Chivas USA on May 20, a game in which he played the full 90 minutes. Scored a career-high three goals and tallied a career-high five assists on the season while appearing in 29 games. Was named the team's Co-Unsung Player of the Year along with teammate Jeff Parke.
2005: Saw his first action on May 28 at Columbus. Appeared in 10 games, starting three. Started in both of New York's playoff games that season.
2004: Sidelined for the majority of the season due to an ankle injury first suffered in the preseason. Saw action in only one game, when he played one minute against Los Angeles on June 19.
College
Was the University of Maryland's team captain as a senior and started and played all but four minutes of every game. Helped team to 12 shutouts in 2003. In previous year, was one of the Terps' tri-captains.
Personal
Graduated in Dec. 2005 with a degree in finance & marketing from the University of Maryland. In Nov. 2006, Stammler along with teammates Jozy Altidore and Jerrod Laventure, went on a six-day service trip to Haiti with Grammy Award winning musician Wyclef Jean and his charitable organization Yele Haiti. Through this, he started his own charitable organization, the Sporting Chance Foundation (SCF). The goal of SCF is to provide clean water wells and educational programs to Haitians. '05 photo spread in Vogue Magazine with supermodel Gisele Bundchen and a Sept. '06 issue of Vanity Fair. Would work in finance if he wasn't playing soccer. Favorite musical artist is Rascal Flatts and enjoys hunting and crossword puzzles.Inspired by his visit to Haiti, Stammler launched his own charitable organization called the "Sporting Chance Foundation."
